“I am really thankful to the Australian Government for offering me this great opportunity to study in Australia under the Australian Scholarships Program,” says Enamul Hoque, a recipient of an Australian Development Scholarship, which allowed him to obtain a Master’s degree in Public Health at the Queensland University in Brisbane.

Enamul was working as a Research Officer at the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (ICDDRB) when he received the scholarship. After his successful completion of the study award in Australia, he returned home to rejoin the same organization and took up a senior position with an enhanced role and wider responsibilities.

He gives full credit to his Australian education for his professional advancement, “The knowledge and skills I acquired through my study in Australia have been extremely useful in helping me execute my current job responsibilities as the Senior Research Investigator in the Child Health Unit of ICDDRB.” He added that he was able to contribute more significantly to his work with his enhanced knowledge and newly acquired research skills.

Australia’s multicultural community of people, lifestyle, food, culture and the beautiful landscapes also enriched Enamul’s experience as a student in Australia. “Australia is a truly multicultural country,” he says. “I was amazed at how hospitable and welcoming the people were towards international students. I will never forget the support I received from the faculty, my fellow students from many different nations, and the community in general. I feel truly privileged to be able to come back to my country and contribute towards the research and development in the public health sector of Bangladesh through the application of the knowledge and skills I gained from my scholarship experience. I actively encourage others to consider applying for an Australian Scholarship place.”
